Neurodevelopmental Approaches

Neurodevelopmental approaches use targeted developmental movements, reflex integration exercises and sensory-motor activities to strengthen the foundations needed for learning, regulation and everyday function.

Screening for primitive and postural reflex development informs identification of signs of neuromotor immaturity, enables identification of appropriate sequential developmental neuromotor and sensory intervention and subsequent evaluation of changes in reflex status before and after developmental intervention.

Professional learning opportunities in neurodevelopmental approaches provide a deeper conceptual understanding of the body-brain connections that underpin learning and how they are applied in practice to support children to thrive.

When students struggle despite good teaching and their own efforts, the missing piece is often neurodevelopmental.

Christine Payard, Founder, Body to brain learning ™

As a INPP™ licentiate I am qualified to apply an internationally recognised, evidence based approach to understanding how neuromotor immaturity may affect learning, behaviour and everyday functioning.

An individual non-invasive screening, evaluation and developmentally designed movement program to address underlying immaturity that may be impacting a child's learning and daily function may be appropriate for implementation.

If identified as appropriate for the child, the developmental movement program aims to strengthen the foundations that may help children learn, regulate and function more effectively.  Implementation takes place by parents within the home environment, with regular monitoring.

Children who may benefit from this approach may be experiencing signs of underlying neuromotor immaturity, characterised by difficulties, for example, in the following areas:

  • Attention and concentration
  • Reading, writing, spelling or math
  • Balance and coordination
  • Sitting still and body regulation
  • Fine and gross motor skills
  • Learning progress and achievement
  • Emotional regulation

Body to Brain Learning@ School™ is an evidence based neurodevelopmental approach that provides a practical framework to assist educators in Australian schools.

As a neurodevelopmental educator and Body to Brain Learning @ School™ Regional Facilitator, I am passionate about building an understanding of the neuromotor and sensory impacts that may underlie children's learning challenges in order to support them to learn and thrive.

I teach, coach and mentor others to observe body-brain connections and implement sequential movement strategies that are inclusive and integrated within existing curriculum and classroom teaching practices.

This approach offers a broader lens for understanding the whole child, how they learn and what their bodies are telling us about what may be contributing to their learning challenges.

Professional learning, coaching and mentoring opportunities are collaboratively tailored to school contexts and offers a blend of online, face-to-face and practical learning.

I am a passionate advocate for children with an unconditional positive regard for them as individuals recognising strengths and possible underlying developmental, trauma or learning challenges that with  support enables them to learn and thrive.

I am a passionate advocate for empowering educators, providing professional learning to build their conceptual understanding and practical skills to recognise the foundational body to brain connections that may be influencing learning, behaviour, learning stamina or daily functions.

Learning difficulties challenge more than just the student, they also challenge the teachers who accommodate their learning needs.
